Abstract

Although the altarpiece was lost after the French invasion of the town, a study of the detailed documentation which has survived has allowed us to reconstruct it with considerable precision. lt was without doubt a key example of early Granada Baroque art, as the characteristic classical style of the end of the 16th century survives very c learly in it. lndeed, the altarpiece may not have been completely lost, since we believe that some sculptures which are at present in the Cathedral ambulatory originally formed part of it.
