Abstract

The provision of an efficient water supply was one of the main pnont1es of local government during the Ancient Regime, since it was both a real need and one of the principal factors in the development of the area. Torredonjimeno enjoys a privilegcd position, situated in an area which was rich in water springs, and this made the task of the local Council easier. However, it was prívate enterprise, undertaken by the local landlord, which led to the construction of an ambitious water system running from a spring situated on the road from the mansion to the castle.
