Abstract

We take as our starting point previous iconographic stud ies of Granada cathedral and its west front, and go on to offer a new iuterpretation o f its figures. An analysis is offered of the symbols of the mystery of the Holy l ncarnation and the theme of Corpus Christi and their integration in Alonso Cano' s architectural design. This is conceived as a great arch, representing the triumph of the Church, as symbolized in the cult of the Virgin and the Eucharist.
