Abstract

The engravings of José de Ribera reached a large public and influenced a number of artists, who used them as sources for their work. In the present paper we present a painting which evidences this fact: a copy of an engraving by Ribera. The painting is in a prívate collection in Granada and has not been made public either as an original Ribera nor as a copy of one of his works or of that of one of his followers. Given the quality of this painting, St. Jerome as a Penitent, and the interest it may evoke, we feel that it is worthy of discussion.
