Abstract

In this article we discuss the interdisciplinary nature of interior design, based on a study of the phenomenon of the so-called "cold bars" or "ambience bars" which proliferated in Barcelona during the 80s. As a
consequence the city established an international reputation as a centre of avant-guarde creative design, and many young artists (Mariscal, Pepe Cortés, Alfredo Arribas) made their national and international reputation.
The phenomenon was intense, and short-lived, and can be best understood in its historical and social context.
