Abstract

Within the defensive enclosure of the Alhambra the walled perimeter and the elements natural to the protective fortress of a medieval palatine city have been relatively well conserved, despite ravages and reconstructions
which they have undergone. Thc most original aspects of this area are the towers and gateways, since herc the Nazarite builders managed to produce a brilliant combination of aesthetic originality, technical ability and also showed the ability to provide solutions for both military and political requirements. The result was the most impressive visual representation of power to be seen in al-Andalus.
