Abstract

The Second Count of Tendilla, lñigo López de Mendoza, was a notable figure of the early Spanish Renaissance. He is one of the clearest examples of those nobles concerned to promote and encourage the production serious works of art, either by personal initiative or by means of position and influence. A study of these works and especially of the relationship between this noble and the masters of his time allows us to see to what extent he is a key figure in the shifts between tradition and modernity which characterise the change from the Middle Ages to Renaissance humanism.
