Abstract

In this paper we discuss the history of the Victoria Monastery in Granada between 1835 and 1870, that is, from the time when the monks were expelled up to its final demolition. To this end, we analyze the situation from the perspective of the changes in the use made of the building and their effects on its conservation and restoration. We also study the plans for reform which were introduced, especially the plans for its re-use as a military hospital, which was the last attempt made to save this interesting monastery.
