Abstract

The Casa de los Tiros has been called “the work of a monomaniac with attacks of heroic madness”, and all the studies written about it have concentrated on the images of heroes which adorn it. The present paper takes the opposite course of analyzing the meaning of the building from the perspective of the monsters, or the defeated. These are symbolic images which are overshadowed by the brilliance of the victors, but since they form part of the same myths they are also present in this unusual Granada palace, and represent the enemies  of the Spain of Charles V.
