Abstract

Since the mid-1970s the indigenous Panzaleo people of the Tigua region in Cotopaxi, Ecuador, have been intensely active as painters, developing their own artistic language and techniques. This empirical article aims to provide a general introduction to the aesthetic and social realities of this movement and to correct some misconceptions which are frequently repeated in the limited bibliography available and which must be considered completely erroneous.
