Abstract

This article establishes the formal and technical influences on Picasso’s first sculptures, done in Barcelona between 1899 and 1904. Together with the incorporation of ideas from the great sculptors in Paris, filtered through the Catalonian postmodernists and symbolists and other specifically Spanish elements, as shown in the choice of subjects and above all in the emphasis on artistic creativity, these create a higher aesthetic based on this same creativity.
