Abstract

This paper offers an artistic and iconographic analysis of the baroque paintings which form the altarpiece of the Discalced Carmelite Convent of St. Theresa in Jaén. It also examines the possible connection between this work and the painter Ambrosio de Valois, who learned his profession in Granada and was active in Jaén between 1671 and 1720. We provide biographical data and information regarding some of the painter’s other works.
