Abstract

The main characters of the present article are the glorious palace of the Uffizi (XVI century) and Piazza Beccaria which is the new archive headquarters in Florence (XX century). These two buildings represent two opposite cultures in time, but nevertheless have one single responsibility: to guard and protect the Florence State Archive. The main objective of this article is an historic-artistic analysis of each building as “a container” of vast documentation of incalculable value.
