Abstract

The convent of Santa María la Real of Nieva (Segovia) was founded by Queen Catherine of Lancaster. The gate of the church and the cloister are two of the greatest exponents of the Spanish Gothic sculpture in the fifteenth century. In this paper we analyze some of the images of the capitals of the cloister in relation with its uses and meanings, among which stand out some allegories of the liberal arts and a cycle of the months of the year.
