Abstract

In 1697 the Brotherhood of Jesus the Nazarene from Archidona reached an agreement with the baroque master Pedro Roldán for the creation of an altarpiece. Thanks to the recovery of this written document we now know that the artist produced at least one work which unfortunately has not survived. In this paper we not only provide a copy of this contract was signed in 1697, as an appendix, but also deal with other aspects of the making and gilding of the altarpiece which can now be considered definitively lost.
