Abstract

Dutch architecture of the first three decades of this century offered a great variety of artistic trends, from Berlage and the Amsterdam Schoo to the De Stijl movement and the functionalists of «De 8» and aroused the interest to Spanish architects in the pages of the journal Arquitectura during its first phase (1918-1936).
Spanish architects were intereted both in more «convectional» artist such as Berlage and the Amsterda School and in the more radical line followed by the Stilj architects and functionalists, without, however, taking part in the internal debate raging in Holland. They viewed the architectural scene in Holland as a rich source of possibilites, and took one «side» or the other without really experiencing the strong tensions exiting between them.
