Abstract

We present an analysis ofthe building of "La Reconquista", one of the most emblematic and suggestive buildings of modernistic architecture in Melilla, designed by Nieto. The pseudonym "commercial" not only defines its function and origin but also includes a series of connotations which help us to establish, on the one hand, the state of commercial relations with the region of Catalonia and, on the other. the receptive attitude shown towards a particular aesthetic and the establishing of a series of social customs.
