Abstract

Diego de Siloé and the Parish church of Montefrío.
In this paper we undertake a detailed study of the church of the "villa" of Montefrío, which is an important example of rural Renaissance archite cture in the province of Granada. The church is little known, and is only mentioned in the architectural studies of the period; it is traditionally considered to have been the work of Siloé during his transitional period between 1543 and 1552. By means of a serious scientific study of the available bibliography and original sources the author provides a suggestive analysis of this valuable building.
