Sobre los orígenes y las primeras etapas constructivas de la parroquia-santuario de Cabra del Santo Cristo (Jaén)

Abstract

The present paper is based on the one hand on a careful study of the rich documentary sources on the monument in question, which have been rarely used by other authors. On the other, a formal and stylistic analysis is offered, although in no great depth, since a detailed account has already been given elsewhere. The chief aim is to clarify, always basing his analysis on a strict fidelity to historical truth, the origins of the monument, and the stages in which it was built. These early stages have not been studied to date -and this is significant, since we are dealing with a temple, the Sanctuary of the Burgos Christ, which has been of great religious importance, and should rightly occupy an outstanding place in the Jaen protobarroque tradition.
