Abstract

In the present article the author analyses the work of the engraver José Guadalupe Posada and the painter Diego de Rivera and establishes the connection between the Mexican wall-painting ("corrido"), considered asan example of as popular poetic inspiration and the plastic arts in the 20th century. The object of Posada's "corrido gráfico" was to provide daily information about current events, and in doing so the engraver created characters who became extremely popular. And Rivera transforms these popular engravings into a visual epic which has become part of the Mexican national memory. His works, which combined figuration and epigraphy, achieved great importance since they were placed in public buildings.
