Abstract

An analysis of news items collected from the press in Granada from 1800-1900 leads to a study of a topic wich has received little systematic attention: the Fine Arts exhibitions which were held in Granada between 1839 and 1883. We discuss the organization of and participation in the exhibitions as well as the critiques written, prizes awarded, etc. The article opens with a review of the treatment given in the local press to artistics topics in general, and types of activity wich our survey has allowed us to determine: exhibitions, etc., given by local artists, the raising of statues in the city, the history of artistic and cultural associations, etc.
