Abstract

In his will Hernando de Talavera, the first archbishop of Granada expressed a wish that a convent should be founded in Loja. His executor, Jerónimo de Madrid, the abbot of Santa Fe, respected his wishes, had the convent built and placed it at the disposal of the Provincial of the Franciscans, Pedro de Montedoca. This act can be verified by consulting the title <leed signed on 7th september 1527 in Loja in the presence of the local notary, Francisco Guijarro and of the then archbishop of Granada, Pedro Ramiro de Alba. This ti tle deed provides considerable information on the foundation and establishing of this religious community.
