Abstract

In Ubeda the Zaya family represents a whole series of sculptors who were active during the last 25 years of the 16th century and the first three decades of the 17th. They are not sufficiently known, only through the last Zayas who collaborated closely with the Mena Medrano workshop, and the present paper provides significant documentary evidence which allows us to clarify the origins, training and production of a fam ily of painters whose works covers more than two centuries.
