Abstract

The author analyses the iconographic designs of the sepulchral arches of the Gold Chapel in Baeza Cathedral, one of which shows an interesting scene from mythology, especially important since the motif was very rare in Spanish tomb sculpture. An interpretation of the sculpted figures in this Chapel is then offered, where the idea of the "memento mori" takes on a special significance. The author also discusses the architecture of the chapel, and its repeated use made of techniqucs uscd by Andrés de Vandelvira; he makes a closer estímate of its chronology; and he also comments on the interesting Benavides chapeí of the neighbouring church of San Francisco.
