Abstract

In Jaén the Renaissance was especially significan!, and among the most important figures was that of Andrés de Vandelvira. His death coincided with the economic crisis in the Upper Guadalquivir at the end of the 1 6th
century, and these two factors prevented the establishing of a rich school of art: many young members of this school were forced to emigrate. Sorne -among them his son Alonso de Yandelvira- did so to the Lower
Guadalquivir: Alonso was very active in Seville and above ali in Cadiz. The objective of the present paper is to emphasize this wide-ranging work, although we will concentrate specially on his activity in the town after the Anglo-Dutch attack of 1596.
