Abstract

In this paper the author presents a short analysis of the altarpiece of St. Francis in the parish church of Padul. The paintings of this altarpiece offers clear examples of the technique and style which began in Granada with Pedro de Machuca. The work has been largely ignored to date, although it can be seen to be one of their finest examples of this school of painting. The author also comments on two pieces from an old sanctuary painted by Francisco de Aragon and Esteban Sánchez.
