Abstract

In Darro the 1 8th century saw the beginning of a new era with the arrival of the 8th Marquis of Ariza Don Vicente María de Palafox Centurión Silva y Sarmiento. The Marquis ceded parts of his entailed estate, which had been founded by Bernardino de Mendoza and Doña Elvira Carrillo de Albornoz, for the building of a parish church in return for the privilege of his coat of arms being represented in the main facade and of having the right to be buried in the vault beneath the sacristy.
