Abstract

One of the problems involved in an analysis of Spanish nationalism is that of the existence and nature of a national opera. Due to lack of knowledge of the various sources available, various unfounded theories substantiated. In the present paper we give an account of the situation of the national opera in 1 885, that is at a crucial moment in the history of Spanish lyrical music and before a group of influential people who doubtless were most influential in their time.
