Abstract

In the present paper the author deals with a hitherto unpublished work by the Valencia composer Manuel Narro (1729-1776), the original manuscript of which is kept in the Musical Archive of the Royal Collegiate of Roncesvalles (Navarra). It is an attempt to contribute to our knowledge of the genre of the eighteenth century concerto in Spain, a field which has not had due attention as yet. The work we analyze has three movements, built round structures frequently used at that time, with influences ofthe sonata forms. The main stylistic features of the concerto (melodic design, harmony, rhythmic and expressive techniques and the treatment ofthe instruments) are typically pre-classical, and of the «galant» world.
