Abstract

The test for purity of blood carried out on Jeronimo de Peraza the 2nd, in order for him to occupy the post of organist in the Royal Chapel in Granada in 1604 enables us to clarify a frequent misunderstanding as to his family history. He has traditionally been considered the nephew of Jeronimo de Peraza the 1 st, but the evidence presented here shows clearly that he was in fact his son. The document studied also provides other biographical information about sorne of the members of the Peraza dynasty and gives us insight into the practice of prívate teaching undertaken after cathedral «hours» by church appointees, a subject about which little was know
