Abstract

After referring briefly to the s ignificance of the liturgical festivity of Corpus Christi the author discusses the various different ways of celebrating this feast day i n Spain. These celebrations were the responsibility of Cathedral chapters, Guilds and Town Halls. ln our study we emphasize the constant presence of dances and other activities: processions of giants, the acting of farces and theatrical works, and Sacramental Autos. Documentary evidence gives much information of this sort on towns such as Cadiz, Valencia, Toledo, Seville, etc. The paper concludes with a study of the theatre and dance on Corpus Christi in Castille.
