Abstract

At the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuries the art of humorous drawing and caricature developed into an important one in Argentina. Among the significant contributory factors was the presence of important European illustrated magazines, such as La Ilustración Artística, published in Barcelona and Blanco y Negro, Madrid. However, equally significant was the fact that Spanish draughtsmen, cartoonists and caricaturists were living in Argentina, and their work aroused the interest of local artists who continued their work in newspapers or in the organization of the first salons of cartoonists and humorists.
