Abstract

This paper presents a series of documents which reveal much of the life and works of the great Granada painter Pedro Atanasio Bocanegra. We also offer an extensive introductory study summarizing his life and professional career, and describing the role he played in contemporary cultural life. The aim is to reevaluate this artist - he also built up an exceptional art collection and library - and to encourage research in this area, which will help to show that Granada played an important role in developing a national tradition of painting as well as of sculpture.
