Abstract

This paper offers a historical approach to urban development and town planning in Motril (Granada) by means of an examination of the Capitulary Agreements of the 16th century. Their study allows us to analyze the progressive introduction of a new model of town planning after the Castilian re-conques! of the town, based on the regulatory powers conferred on the Municipal Council and on the construction of public buildings, all of which have disappeared. The records of the Town Council thus constitute an essential source of information about this urban development.
