Abstract

The painting "The Procession of St. Ciare with the Sacred Host" forms part of a series of works painted by Valdés Leal between 1 652- 1 653 designed to be hung in the Presbitery of the Convent Church of St. Ciare of Carmona, Seville.
The painting is at present in the High Chapterhouse of Seville Town Hall; the Town Council is now its owner and commissioned the restoration work undertaken from 1990-1991.
This restoration consisted in firming up the frame and support, fixing the actual painted surface, eliminating oxidized varnish and repainting, filling in cracks, restoring the true colours and providing final protection.
