Abstract

This article studies the power relations between genders and the role played by the women, the fulfilment of the mother authority, and the fields of action for the hidalgo women in Gipuzkoa during the 16th century. The text refers fundamentally to the figure of the ladies, married or widowed, analyzing the elements that, in practice, influenced the exercise of their authority over the family members and relatives, as well as their managing role for the economy of the family.
