Abstract

This report analyzes the different modernity hypothesis which have been developed since
Antiquity to the present. It approached the meaning of the matriarchal myths in Greece and also
the importance of this debate, since the XIX century, in the great ways of thinking as in marxism,
psychoanalysis and above all feminism. This brief historical review about the feminine power
shows the dangers in considering that the work of historical investigation is one of sending
messages but also the great contributions of this investigation, which have allowed us to
understand the variety and heterogeneity of the family and social organizations in space and
time, individualizing the existence of “matrilocales” and “matrilineales” organizations.
