Abstract

The subject of analysis is the most important change occurring in the history of women in
England: the change of focus over the past decade, exposing the wealth of knowledge resulting
from the conceptual interchange between social scientists and the feminist theory. This study
focuses on the strict usage of the term “gender” and the manner in which its use has affected
the study of the modern welfare States. Finally, central themes in Women's History that
intersect, in the analysis of gender relations, with the study of welfare systems are reviewed as
points of reference for future discussion.
