Abstract

This article reflects on the research about women in the France of the Ancien Régime
through a look at feminine labor, above all in the dressmaking and textile sectors. Current
methodological concerns, the problems regarding sources, and the specific topics and objectives
surrounding women's labor in French and European historiography are the focus of the study.
Finally, in order to explore further in the historic analysis of this area, some new methodological
lines are suggested, based on the studies published to date.
