Abstract

This study takes a look at medieval literary sources, their importance in the society of that
period, and their interpretation from the perspective of women's history. Although these sources
may seem far removed from social reality, they can contribute a wealth of information as
symbolic representations providing insight into the perceptive and congnitive modes of medieval
societies. For this purpose, one must analyze the particular scope of a writing, as well as
the specific conditions in which it was received, produced, or heard. In this context, texts
written by women acquire special relevance.
