Abstract

The study of the cultural practice of "gender" in the construction of industrial societies is thwarting the patriarchal interpretation which has covered up for years the artistic culture of spanish women.

Above all simple empirical observation, this investigation tries to examine closely without accommodativeness some concrete facts, based on unpublished documents.

Therefore, by studying the career of piano of two generations of women, it reveales on the one hand the progressive levelling of knowledge in the musical theaching process; then one the other hand the social and professional estatus of Madrid's female inhabitants who were dedicated to the teaching piano in a public center submited to a strong administrative centralism and also in a close entourage.
