Abstract

This paper attempts to account for the oft-cited paradox that women are unimportant in Greek society, but very important in tragedy. The essay, grounded in Hannah Arendt's theory of power, seeks to show two new specific ways in which one can look at the question of women's power, specifically, the public use of names of women and their actual speeches.
