Abstract

In accordance to the long established tradition of Iberian interest in Latin American affairs Concepcion Gimeno de Flaquer, a turn of the century Spanish writer living in Mexico published there the first feminist newspaper: Woman's Album (El Album de la Mujer). In its pages she introduced to Mexican public the most famous Iberian writers. By the same token, though her conferences in Madrid's Ateneo and several publications, she introduced the Spanish public to Mexican topic, specially the Aztec Civilization which she interpreted from a feminist perspective that underlined the importance of women's roles, particularly Hernan Cortes' lover Malintzin. In supporting her feminist and views Gimeno contributed to the construction of a nationalist and feminist identity in Mexico.
