Abstract

This article deals with the documents issued from the cistercian monastery of Santa María of Oseira (Ourense, Galicia), aprox. 2000 from the middle of 12th century to the end of 13th century. The aim of this paper is the understanding of the reason of the relevance of women of very different social status from the beginning of the monastic life. The explanation is based on egalitarian inheritance systems in that area in the Middle Ages, and the transmision of property, mostly lands, by marriage. Finally, it concerns a specific way of circulation of lands in women hands.
