Abstract

This article analyzes the political quality of the pro-feminist or pro-female texts generated as a response to misogyny in the context of the Spanish Querelle des Femmes in the 15th century. It focuses on Triunfo de las donas (Triumph of women), by Juan Rodríguez de la Cámara (or del Padrón), one of the most significant works of the textual corpus of the Iberian querelle. It was the first treatise intended to oppose the misogynistic views circulating at the time and it enjoyed great popularity both inside and outside the Peninsula. This study is concerned with the analysis of three issues: the context in which the work occurs and the agents that influence its creation; the pro-feminine principles proposed by the author and the political significance that the generation of this kind of works might have had at the time.
