Abstract

Women who lived in the Roman West in the first three centuries AD were participants in a civic patronage that led to changes in the traditional model of the civitas. The imprint of women in urban architecture, the feminization of civic relations, the transformation of the image and identity of cities and the exercise of economic, social and civic women deployed in the cities was a singular process that need a concept, that of matronage, to be recognized in history.
