Abstract

This article, based on the published bibliography and present research, intends to demonstrate the role of women in Andalusian anarchism leading up to the start of the Spanish Civil War. From  the start of anarchism  in Andalusia,  in the period  of the Primera Internacional,  groups  of women,  including  crafswomen,  rationalist  teachers  and self-taught  working women, spread the message of independence. This message contained the seed which led to the beginnings of female anarchistic ideas in the 1930’s. These ideas, together with powerful anarchistic  union movements  just before the civil war, were the main causes of the formation of female  trade  unions  defending  woman’s  rights.
