Intersecciones entre arte y artesanía en el arte cubano contemporáneo

Abstract

The incursion of contemporary visual artists into craft techniques and methodologies stems from the need of the artists themselves to generate visual images by creating new imaginaries and starting from different contexts. Within the brief overview of contemporary Cuban art, artisanship has played a fundamental role in the work of artists like Los Carpinteros, Carlos Garaicoa, Elizabet Cerviño, Yanelis Mora Morales and Mabel Poblet. In some of them marking the methodology of their creation and in others serving as an investigative, reflective or expressive tool. However, in either case, his works have served as a platform for recognition, dialogue, and legitimization between two areas that have historically been in conflict.
