About the Journal

teorema is an international journal of general philosophy that primarily focuses on the classical disciplines historically associated with analytical philosophy: logic, philosophy of language, philosophy of logic, philosophy of mind, philosophy and history of science, theory of knowledge, and epistemology. In this new phase, teorema also embraces methodological pluralism and non-idealized versions of the traditional disciplines of analytical philosophy, expanding its scope to areas of philosophy that were not prioritized in previous periods of the journal: moral and political philosophy, aesthetics and the theory of the arts, argumentation theory and informal logic, metaethics, metaphilosophy, and experimental philosophy. Additionally, it incorporates the perspective of the political turn, which involves addressing issues and biases affecting groups traditionally underserved. The aim of teorema is to foster the exchange of ideas among the diverse currents of contemporary philosophy.

Focus and Scope:

teorema is committed to academic excellence, the promotion of high-quality research, and the advancement of knowledge in contemporary philosophy. The journal is aimed at philosophy professionals at all levels of expertise: students, researchers, and professors. While Spain and Latin America are its primary areas of focus, teorema maintains a universal and multilingual vocation.

Regarding content, teorema strives to ensure a balance between different philosophical traditions, thematic diversity, and methodological pluralism. Moreover, Teorema will ensure respect for minorities, support inclusive language, and reject all forms of discrimination.

Publication Frequency:

teorema publishes its regular issues semiannually, in April and November, along with one thematic issue per year.

The journal employs an online first continuous publication system, allowing articles to be published individually or alongside others as soon as they have undergone peer review, been approved by the journal, edited, and formatted, without waiting for the completion of the full issue. These are always final versions assigned to a specific volume, issue, and year, and they are provided with a DOI and an identifier (e-locator) to be included in citations.

History and Trajectory:

The philosophy journal teorema, founded in Valencia in 1971 by the logic professor Manuel Garrido and published uninterruptedly until 1986, marked a milestone in the development of contemporary philosophical thought in Spain and Latin America. During this period, teorema published works by such notable philosophers as Bunge, Chomsky, Dummett, Ferrater Mora, García Bacca, Habermas, Pears, Popper, Quine, Searle, Strawson, and others. It also organized a significant number of symposia on a wide variety of topics, including contemporary scientific philosophy in Germany, Wittgenstein’s Tractatus, knowledge and belief, aspects of Quine’s philosophy, aspects of Davidson’s philosophy, and philosophical and linguistic aspects of Chomsky’s work.

In December 1996, teorema resumed publication, focusing on original articles in the following areas: logic, philosophy of language, philosophy of logic, philosophy of mind, cognitive science, philosophy and history of science, epistemology, metaphysics, and other related disciplines. teorema has paid special attention to the study of Spanish thought in all its periods and facets. It has also published, primarily by invitation, critical notes and reviews.

To date, teorema has been published triannually in February, May, and October, including articles, discussions, critical notes, symposia, and reviews of recent books. Additionally, teorema has regularly published special issues dedicated to current philosophical topics.
