Radio as an educational tool to improve the verbal skills of secondary school students
Main Article Content
Abstract
This article analyses the effectiveness of radio as an educational tool to improve the verbal skills of secondary school students. In this medium of communication, voice – the spoken word – is protagonist, along with music and sound effects. This makes radio an ideal resource to exercise prosodic elements and highlight their relevance in oral communication.
The didactic unit condensed in this article has been put into practice with a group of third of ESO teenagers; however, it can be adapted to be used in any other level. The final goal of this proposal is for students to record a radio programme. To this end, they must previously undergo a number of sessions in which they will learn some necessary skills, such as speaking in front of a microphone while paying attention to pronunciation and speech tempo, writing a radio script, selecting the opening music for each section, etc.
